When we make our tabletop garden, due to different reasons, we may want to keep our plants in individual pots. And if some of these pots cannot be fully hidden inside the garden container, we will want to wrap and cover them with moss. And sometimes, with the limited space in our tabletop garden, we may want to take the plants out from their pots and wrap only the roots and soil with moss as well. In this way, the moss holds the roots and soil together, acting more or less like a container for the plants.
Wrapping the pots or roots of a plant with moss is actually quite easy. I was actually quite surprised when I did it for the first time and found how easy it really was. I was like, “wow! That’s it?” So, believe me, it is probably easier than what you have thought.
Here is how to wrap pots or roots with moss.
This is the bag of moss I have. It is probably made in China or Taiwan.
First take out a handful of moss and put it in a plastic basin. Sprinkle the moss with some water and knead the moss. If the moss is too dry, sprinkle with more water. Repeat this until you feel the moss is wet yet, when you try to squeeze the moss, no water should be dripped out from the moss.
Put the wetted moss on the table and shape it into a circle. The size of the moss depends on the size of the pot or roots and soil of the plant that you are about to wrap.
Wrap the moss around the pot or roots and soil.
Then, use some thin wire to wrap around the moss. I prefer to use copper line for its color can blend in with the moss better than those silver ones. Note that the copper line can be reuse again and again. So don’t throw it away after use, but save it for your next tabletop garden 😉
Wrap around the moss from up to down, from left to right for several times, then cut the cooper line and stick the end of the line into the moss.
Voila! That’s it! Easy yea?
